What is The AIA?  The American Institute of Architects is the Voice of the Architecture Profession
 
The AIA is dedicated to serving its members, advancing their value, and improving the quality of the built environment. The organization was founded in 1857.
 
The American Institute of Architects, a nationwide association, represents nearly 70,00 licensed professionals through its office in Washington, DC visit AIA National and through over 300 state and local components. Founded in 1931, the New York State Association of Architects, also known as AIA New York State, has a statewide membership of over 4,500 members in twelve chapters and speaks for the interests of all registered architects in New York State. The Executive Office is headquartered in Albany. visit AIA New York State.
 
AIA members adhere to a Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct that assures clients, the public and colleagues of their dedication to high standards in professional practice.
 
The Staten Island Chapter of the American Institute of Architects was founded in 1950 by a group of architects that included Mr. Albert Melniker, AIA, who remained a member until his passing in January 2002.
