NEW YORK CITY ZONING RESOLUTION

The New York City Zoning Resolution, which governs the use and bulk of all property within the five boroughs, is ever-changing as is the City of New York. Regular text changes and down-zonings are implemented yearly. It is common for up to two years to pass before the official print version of these amendments, as updates to the resolution, make their way to the professionals who pay for them. One way to gain information regarding text changes and/or down-zonings is to visit the offices of the City Planning Commision, Department of City Planning. Alternately, the text and maps of the NYC Zoning Resolution are available in downloadable format online at www.nyc.gov/html/dcp/home.html.

Issues affecting our Island:

AIA Staten Island helps draft first formal recommendations of Mayor Michael Bloomberg's Growth Management Task Force

Former chapter President Robert E. Englert, AIA, after being selected by Island Councilman James Oddo, served on panel charged with the task of effecting meaningful changes to New York City's Zoning Resolution. The recommendations, formally announced on December 2nd, 2003, are the result of a tireless effort on the part of Mr. Englert and his colleagues. AIA Staten Island recognizes these efforts and will continue to lend its support to the Mayor and the elected officials of this Borough.

Issues affecting our city:

• Coalition Issues Initial Recommendations for Rebuilding Lower Manhattan.
The New York New Visions coalition of professionals representing 20 design and planning organizations issued a preliminary report containing recommendations for rebuilding lower Manhattan in New York City. The report was presented to Governor George Pataki, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the Lower Manhattan Redevelopment Corporation, New York's Congressional delegation, city and state agencies, and a wide array of civic, business, and community groups. Visit the AIA National web site to download report.
